Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy (Physiotherapie, physiothérapie) is covered by KVG — but only with a valid medical prescription. Here is how to access treatment and what you will pay.
How physiotherapy is accessed
Physiotherapy can only be billed to KVG when prescribed by a doctor. The prescription specifies the number of sessions authorised. Without a prescription, physiotherapy is a private cost.
- See your GP or specialist for the relevant condition
- Ask for a physiotherapy prescription
- Take the prescription to a KVG-accredited physiotherapy practice of your choice
- The physiotherapist bills KVG directly via your insurance card
How many sessions are covered?
A standard prescription covers 9 sessions. After 9 sessions, your doctor must issue a new prescription. Each session is subject to your franchise and Selbstbehalt.
Choosing a physiotherapist
You can choose any KVG-accredited practice. Physiotherapists are listed on physioswiss.ch. Look for one who specialises in your condition if possible.

Self-funded physiotherapy
You can attend without a prescription but pay the full cost yourself (CHF 80–180 per session). Some supplementary insurance includes contributions toward non-prescribed physiotherapy.
